I have lost count on how many Treo 600's I have possessed. It is at least 7, probably 8. I definitely destroyed one of them and I (unhappily) paid for that one, though (happily) it was within two weeks of the original purchase and Amex protects purchases in that timeframe. But I digress, I have had terrible luck with the devices, primarily the issue has been with the screen, but the software has also been faulty and done weird things...like reset everytime I try to access the PalmOne or Sprint portals. I am not the only one either.
Anyway, today has been frustrating. I took the phone in over a month ago and was told they'd replace it and they'll call me in a few days when the new one is in. Well, they never called. I was in the neighborhood today and stopped in, it had been sitting behind the counter for probably the last month (can you say poor inventory management.) Rather than launching into a tirade I just handed the old phone over and said I'd be back in 30 minutes. No problem, the phone was ready. Except that when I went to make my first call I was told that my phone couldn't validated...I called Sprint PCS and got irritated with the automated friendly female voice who disconnected me once, then had me on hold for 5 minutes or so only to hear that it will be 2-4 hours before the phone is ready. Having been through this many times I know this isn't the norm, but the rep on the other end said it was, just be patient. Well, if this was the norm I would have brought the phone in over the weekend, not in the middle of a business day where I'm working from home and actually need the damn thing. So in the scheme of things I recognize 2-4 hours isn't that long to wait, but I can't help being really irritated at the entire process, especially when I know they can do it faster and should be able to do it faster, and especially after I feel like a forgotten customer who they neglected to call...the sad truth is that mobile phone service providers are all pretty bad, having had AT&T, T-Mobile and now Sprint. Once this contract is up though I'm game to give a fourth company a try.
